The Summer Sore Kit

Summer sores caused by the Habronema worms are carried by flies and deposited in wounds, cuts and/or moist areas of the horse’s body. These parasitic worms cause skin lesions by burrowing into the tissue and infecting the area with toxins. This can lead to very serious skin infections, sores that won’t heal and even blood (infection) poisoning and death.

New World Screw Worms – horses can contract screw-worms when female flies lay eggs in open wounds, scapes, cuts and moist areas (eye, nose). The eggs hatch, the larvae (which look like maggots) burrow into the flesh and begin feeding within hours. These can lead to severe issues within days. Having a protocol in place for prevention if there have been any in your area is a good idea.

We put together the only things that we have found that actually work to kill them naturally and support chemical treatments effectiveness. It is essential to kill both the parasite/larvae at the surface and the toxic infection both there and in the blood stream.
